This week, St Charles Catholic Primary School in Spennymoor turned purple with pride as the whole school came together to take part in the CAFOD Big Lent Walk Challenge. And what an afternoon it was!
With the weather staying beautifully fine and bright, every pupil and adult put on their walking shoes and set off around the school grounds. The challenge set for the day was a big one — 200km — but our amazing school community didn’t just meet it…
We walked over 350km together!
Thanks to the energy, enthusiasm and teamwork of our fantastic children and all the adults who joined them, the school smashed the target and completed just over 350km in a single afternoon. There were smiles, laughter and plenty of excitement as everyone made their way around the route.
Walking for CAFOD: A Journey of Awareness and Compassion
The day wasn’t just about getting our steps in (although we certainly did that!). It was also about raising money and awareness for the incredible work CAFOD does around the world.
Before the walk began, Miss Robinson led the school in prayer, reminding everyone of those who must travel far each day for clean water, food, safety and hope. Her words captured the heart of our mission:
“We hope that our actions may bring real change to those living in poverty around the world. Walk beside us, Lord, so that our steps may bring us closer to justice, peace, and a world where all may thrive.”
Special Shout‑Outs!
A huge thank you and well‑deserved shout‑out goes to:
- Our wonderful social media team, who ran around capturing the event so beautifully
- Two incredible Year 6 pupils, who completed the four‑lap route twice to help guide everyone safely around the course
Your help made the event run smoothly and added so much to the day.
What a day to remember!
The CAFOD Big Lent Walk brought our school community together in faith, joy and purpose. We are incredibly proud of every single person who took part.
