St Charles Catholic Primary School in Spennymoor is incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our St Charles Lego Legends team. Made up of talented Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, the team has been awarded the prestigious Core Values Award at the First Lego League Unearthed competition, held in partnership with Nissan.
Celebrating Hard Work, Dedication and Team Spirit
Our strong team of eight dedicated pupils devoted countless lunchtimes and hours after school to prepare for this exciting STEM challenge. Their mission? To research, plan, build, code and compete in a demanding one‑day robotics and innovation competition.
This year’s theme was centred around an archaeology problem, requiring pupils to tackle a series of build mission challenges using LEGO and computer‑aided programming. And what a mission it was!
Three Rounds, One Goal: Earn the Highest Score
Across the competition, the St Charles Lego Legends competed in
three rounds of 2.5‑minute robot challenges, working strategically to earn as many points as possible. But the competition didn’t stop there.
The team also had to:
- Deliver a detailed presentation about the challenges they faced
- Explain how they solved problems throughout the project
- Demonstrate exceptional teamwork
- Show how they embedded the competition’s six core values into every stage of their work
Judges praised the St Charles team for promoting these values consistently—not only during the competition day but throughout all their planning and preparation.
A Well‑Deserved Award
We are delighted that our pupils’ hard work, creativity, resilience and teamwork have been recognised with the Core Values Award. This achievement reflects their outstanding attitude, determination and enthusiasm for learning.
Well done to the whole St Charles Lego Legends team!
