Children in Year 4 are invited to prepare for and receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Understanding these Sacraments is a rich and meaningful journey, shaped by a variety of experiences and celebrations that take place throughout their school years.
First Holy Communion is a particularly special moment, as it is when the children receive the Holy Eucharist—the Body and Blood of Jesus—for the first time.
The preparation programme for both Sacraments begins in November and concludes in June. It is delivered through the Religious Education (RE) curriculum in school and supported by family learning workshops. All Year 4 children take part in the RE curriculum aspect of the programme.
Parents play a vital role in supporting their children’s faith journey. They are invited to attend regular family workshops and Masses, and are encouraged to spend time talking and praying with their children at home.
During the preparation period, children participate in celebration Masses at St Charles Catholic Church. They are presented by their parents for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation, and the First Holy Communion Mass will take place in the summer.
